OS3 // open lab

the lab is a working robotics shop and a shared office. these rules keep everyone safe and the space usable. by applying, coming in, or using anything here, you agree to all of the below. if any part doesn't work for you, don't apply — or email us first and we'll talk.

1 · what this is

  1. the lab is OS3 Inc.'s private office and robotics workshop in San Francisco. it is not a public space and not a coworking membership.
  2. access is a revocable guest privilege we extend at our discretion. it is not a membership, a tenancy or lease, employment, a partnership, or any kind of contractual or property right. being here once does not entitle you to come back.
  3. nothing on this page or in the application creates an employment, agency, joint-venture or investment relationship between you and OS3.

2 · assumption of risk & release of liability

read this carefully — it affects your legal rights. the lab is a workshop: soldering irons, hot 3D printers, power tools, sharp objects, chemicals, electrical equipment and moving robots. these can cause serious injury or death. you enter the space and use the equipment voluntarily and entirely at your own risk, and you accept that risk. to the maximum extent permitted by law, you release, waive and discharge OS3 Inc., its founders, employees, contractors and agents from any and all claims, demands, liabilities and costs for injury, death, property damage or loss arising out of or connected to your presence at or participation in the lab — including claims based on ordinary negligence. you also agree to indemnify and hold OS3 harmless for any damage you cause and for any claim arising out of your own actions, your equipment, or your breach of these rules. OS3 provides no insurance of any kind covering you, your work, or your property — carry your own if you want coverage.

  1. you are responsible for using equipment within your own skill level. if you don't know how to use something safely, ask before you touch it.
  2. this release binds you, your heirs and anyone claiming on your behalf, and survives your visit.

3 · our right to remove & refuse

  1. it's our office. we reserve the right to refuse entry, revoke access, or ask anyone to leave at any time, for any reason or no reason, with no explanation owed, effective immediately.
  2. decisions on applications are made at our sole discretion and are final. we don't owe a reason, a seat, or a spot in a future week.
  3. if we ask you to leave, leave promptly and calmly. take your belongings; we're not responsible for anything left behind.

4 · conduct

  1. be respectful. no harassment, discrimination, or creepiness of any kind, toward anyone — zero tolerance. this is grounds for an immediate, permanent ban.
  2. keep the noise down. people are working. take calls and meetings outside; use headphones for anything with audio.
  3. keep the space clean. clean your bench before you leave, take your trash out, and put tools back where you found them. leave it better than you found it.
  4. shared-equipment etiquette. don't hog machines others are waiting on, never leave a running machine unattended, and label your prints and parts so they don't get tossed or mixed up.

5 · open-idea space

  1. conversations here are informal and unprotected. there are no NDAs, and nothing said or shown here is confidential.
  2. don't bring in or share anything you're obligated to keep confidential — your employer's, a client's, or anyone else's trade secrets or protected information. that's on you, not us.
  3. anything you choose to share here, you share at your own risk. OS3 and others in the room may already be working on similar ideas, may keep working on them, and owe you no compensation, credit, or restriction for any overlap.
  4. OS3's equipment, prototypes, code, data and information remain OS3's property. no photos, video, or scans of OS3 prototypes, screens, or whiteboards without our explicit permission.

6 · your equipment & robots

  1. you may bring your own robots or hardware only with prior written arrangement. email lab@os3robotics.com before your visit with exactly what you're bringing, and wait for the go-ahead.
  2. your equipment is your responsibility and your liability. any damage it causes to people, to property, or to OS3's gear is on you.
  3. OS3 may refuse, power-limit, or unplug any device at any time, for safety or any other reason.
  4. personal belongings are your responsibility and left here at your own risk. don't leave valuables unattended.

7 · safety

  1. follow any instruction from OS3 staff immediately, no debate. if you're asked to stop, stop.
  2. wear closed-toe shoes around the machines.
  3. no working alone in the machine area.
  4. report any accident, injury, or damage right away. breakages happen — telling us is fine. hiding it is what gets you banned.
  5. no alcohol or drugs in the space. don't operate equipment impaired.
  6. 18 or older only.

8 · practicalities

  1. access only on your confirmed days, during the stated hours. no showing up on days you weren't given.
  2. no guests or plus-ones without prior email approval — everyone in the building applies or is cleared in advance.
  3. the space may be photographed or filmed by OS3. by attending, you consent to appearing incidentally in lab photos or video that OS3 may publish. if you'd rather not appear, tell us and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

9 · applications & your data

  1. applications are vetted using public web sources and AI assistance. we read what's publicly available about you to balance each week.
  2. we store what you submit on the form. we don't sell it.
  3. want your data removed? email lab@os3robotics.com and we'll delete it.

10 · changes

  1. these rules may change between weeks. the version posted on this page at the time of your visit is the one that applies to you.
  2. need an exception to any rule — different days, bringing your own robot, a plus-one, anything? email lab@os3robotics.com. a human reads it and we're reasonable.
